Citizens of the Month

The Citizen of the Month Program is our opportunity to recognize students for outstanding character in the classroom.  Students are selected by their classroom teacher for a variety of reasons with each month having a unique theme.  Students selected as the Citizen of the Month for their classroom are recognized with a special lunch, certificate and their picture on display in the front lobby of the school.

Our Citizen of the Month award for September honors students who demonstrate Respect for Self and Respect for Others.  Respect for self means that you take care of yourself by making safe and healthy choices while Respect for Others means that you care about others property, feelings and work to help make situations positive for all students.

Citizen of the Month Tied into Character Traits

Each month we will be honoring students who demonstrate positive character traits to fellow students, teachers, and other staff members in our building.  These students are nominated by their teacher to receive a Citizen of the Month award.  A luncheon is held in their honor with Mrs. Colburn, and other Specialists in our building.  PTA provides the meal and certificates, and ASB provides the ice cream treats.

Our morning announcements encourage everyone to practice a specific monthly virtue.  We give an example of how that can be accomplished each day.  These virtue themes are a combination of both our Capturing Kids’ Hearts, and Project Wisdom curriculums.  Below is a list of specific virtue themes for each month, followed by what should be practiced each of the four weeks that month.  We need your help in modeling these positive behaviors as well.  A wise person once said, “Actions speak louder than words”.
